Dr.Gott, the star of the Free Press in February 7.1986, responded to a question from a ten year old boy to get rid of cold sores, saying, ". I regret to say that there is no cure for herpes labialis or cold sores "I know you wrote about the fruit being involved and others use the treatment of lysine. Dr.Gott I guess they think is wrong. Can you tell us your views, as manypeople often suffer from cold sores. LH
Dear L.He.: One of my first articles was about cold sores and its successful treatment. Most doctors are not aware of the research which governs the treatment plan that followed, but a new approach that has received a good amount of publicity. Dr.Gott has clearly not heard of him.
During 47 years of dental practice, I have treated thousands of oral cold sores. At that time, I have rarely seen a patient with this disease, which was not drinking juice or eating fruit usually in large quantities. Some may be due to the use of chocolate or nuts, but most appeared to be related to fruit citric acid and malic food donor number, benzoic acid and oxolic. Back in 1940, Harold F. Hawkins, DDS, reported in his book "Applied Nutrition", which many people are not completely digest the organic acids of some or all of these fruits, and if not, could develop symptoms of rash, the edema, stomatitis and thrush (a form of herpes) because of acidosis that results. He also said that the inability to digest was very common in people with very small amounts of hydrochloric acid of the enzyme in the stomach and had a low thyroid activity.
More recent research on a completely different track showed that a diet rich in foods low in arginine and lysine were directly related to the virus-related oral herptic cold sores, genital herpes and shingles. Foods high in arginine are all types of nuts, peanut butter, cocoa powder, chocolate, sesame seeds, gelatin and buckwheat flour. Foods rich in lysine, which can counteract the harmful effects of arginine are fish, chicken, milk, beef, goat, beef, lamb, mung beans, pork, cheese, beans, yeast, crustaceans and of eggs.
The story of this discovery is very interesting. Dr.Chris Kagan, working in the laboratory of virus in the Cedars of Lebanon Hospital in Los Angeles, has found that the amino acid L-arginine has been added to the solution used to grow tissue cells infected herpes virus, but it was not the solution when there was more than the growth of tissue cells. After the University of Richmond Dr. r.W. Tankersley, showed that L-arginine is the most active form will stimulate the growth of the virus and also found that the addition of L-lysine to the growth medium, arrested the formation of the virus. These results led Dr. Kagan to ask whether lysine will not help control herpes in people who now know that the virus requires perpendicular L-arginine is an essential amino acid. It is not essential for humans, but L-lysine is essential.
Before the Ides of research published and approved a series of incidents usually occur. In this case, Dr. Richard s.Griffith, professor of medicine at the Medical School of Indiana, while listening to a lecture Dr.Kagan, said he had noticed that cases of herpes has become more severe and increasing the number after the Easter and Christmas. He immediately saw the connection between these parties and the increased use of chocolate, which contains 4 per cent of L-arginine. This led to Kagan and Dr. Arthur Griffith Norine, the publication of a research paper on the subject reports "Dermatology" in the healing effects of lysine in 45 patients with oral herpes, genital and facial.
Over the next seven or eight years there was a slow acceptance of the hypothesis, but the real breakthrough came when Dr. Cory Servaas wrote in the July / August 1982 "Saturday Evening Post," a main story on the use of L-lysine and its ability to stop herpes. Since then, the word has spread like wildfire. Indeed, the "Saturday Evening Post" has become an ideal source of information for many new and improved nutritional approaches to health services.
Sores in the corners of the mouth often have sores and cracks on the lips at the corners of my mouth. I heard it's a vitamin. What is it? EH Dear EH: This is the most common nutritional deficiencies or cheilosis technically called angular cheilitis. The lips are dry and the extension, but appear to be wet because of the accumulation of saliva in the corners of the mouth.
The tissue distribution of the lips is caused by a vitamin deficiency of riboflavin (B2). Vitamin B2 is lost in refining the dietary exposure of grains to sunlight, and some is lost by heating the food and when in alkaline solutions. The sodium bicarbonate used in baking is also harmful. Some good food sources are organ meats like liver, kidneys and heart, chicken, fish, green vegetables, nuts, fruits, vegetables, dairy products, eggs and whole grains.
When the corners of the mouth are cracked, it is common for the skin and eyes are also often associated with deficiency of vitamin B2. Good nutrition, including foods mentioned above, plus a B complex is recommended from all the B vitamins have locking functions. People who use prostheses are usually continuous shrinkage of your gums. This causes a gradual reduction and closure of excessive jaw that allows the collection of saliva in the corners of the mouth. Many are similar cracks on his lips. This is not a deficiency of vitamin B2, but, of course, as things could go together.
